Finish This Sentence => What Three Things Would I Need To......
-
You are walking down the street when you notice something in the gutter, a strangely shaped tin can, normally this is a very tidy area so you are drawn to it to investigate it further.
You give it a little kick with the toe of your shoe, and you hear a small groan from somewhere. You look around but there is no one to be seen, so you give the strange can another kick, this time a bit harder, the groan sounds again this time you are sure it is from within the can.
You stoop down and pick it up, you hold it a little closer to your ear, yes, the sound came from within the can which you notice is grubby and has no shine.
You give a little giggle within yourself and recall the fairy story of the Genie in the lamp. No its a fairy story its not true, but what the ….., you rub the lamp and almost drop it in shock as there is a large puff of smoke and out pops a Genie.
“Hey that hurt”, he says rubbing his head. Well he has a head a long tapering body but no feet as he still seems to be attached to the lamp by a spiral of smoke. “Why did you kick me?” he asks as if a bit annoyed by the episode.
“Well I suppose you have released me and read that fairy story of the Genie in the lamp”. You silently nod, looking around again in case anyone can see you standing in the middle of a street talking to a ...what....a Genie?
“I suppose then to satisfy your curiosity you want three wishes for me to grant you?”
What would you do?
What would you say?
What would you wish for?
Just stop –
Think about it.
If you are normal, and I have no doubt you are although we have not met, I would imagine you would wish:-
I would like to be rich.................
I would like to be happy.................
I would like to be successful............
That is what normal people would ask for. Now usually I hate the word – normal – because I would hate to be called normal myself, but for this purpose let us just use that word, you will put your own interpretation on it anyway.
Let us just look at those three wishes and see if I can be your Genie, but be careful how you rub me I am a bit ticklish.
I want to be rich........
What is rich?
Well according to Charles Dickens:-”Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pound ought and six, result misery.”
But just maybe you have a figure a bit larger than that in your mind. However until you quantify exactly what you mean by being RICH you will never become rich.
Do you mean calculating exactly what your expenses are each year and being able to earn enough to pay them with a little left over such as Mr Micawber did>
Or, do you mean to have so much money you could purchase everything you ever wanted or want in the future without having to save up for what you want?
Both by the way are entirely feasible if you know how.
I want to be happy.......
What is happiness?
It is something that makes you smile inside.
As Albert Camus put it: “But what is happiness except the simple harmony between a man and the life he leads.”
One of the tricks for retaining a happy disposition is this. If you feel in a foul mood, stop, look back and try to identify the moment you started to feel the foul mood coming on. Once identified look further back and feel when you were happy now re-create the happy scene and feel happy again, remember you cannot alter the past you can only plan to make tomorrow better.
He made me so annoyed by what he said – WRONG. Another person cannot make you FEEL anything, it is how you interpret the words they use and allow them to affect your thinking that you decide am I going to be happy, sad, delighted or annoyed by MY INTERPRETATION. ONLY YOU can make YOU feel any emotion.
What is successful? As Mark Twain said:- “All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence; then success is sure.”
Not sure if I agree with the total quotation taken literally but an interpretation could be as Martin Luther King junr said "You do not need to see the whole staircase before you, just take the first step in faith..."
To be successful you need to know exactly where you want to end up, begin with the end in mind, and then plan to take small steps to get there. You do not need to know everything BEFORE you seyou take no riskst out on your journey.
Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "Most people tip toe through life only to make it safely to death."
So what about you – are you willing to step out in faith knowing where you want to end up but not quite knowing every step of the way, or are you the type to need to have everything carefully planned out before you, tiptoeing around
ensuring that you take no risks in life.
Let me tell you the type I believe in the above scenario who will end up successful it is the one who....
Whether at home, work, or beyond, your life is waiting for you to reclaim the power that your doubts and fears have been wielding and begin living it more purposefully, more passionately, and more courageously.
Don't believe me? Your life is waiting on you to dare to try.
A Goal is For Life => Not Just At New Year
So feel the fear and do it anyway that is how you can visualise your way to the top.
