What Do You Mean You Don’t Have the Time?

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Concentration and staying focused are possibly the most difficult things to control. You are inundated daily with so many distractions. Open your mail box and a hundred ‘Gurus’ are offering their latest sure fire way of being successful. In no time at all one or two hours have drifted by and are gone forever.

No matter whether you have written goals or not, it is so easy to slip into the,’Just have a look at this one’,mode and before you know it you do not have time to carry out the very thing you had originally set out to do.

You set off chasing your goals with such enthusiasm and vigour determined to spend a certain time each and every day making it or them come to fruition. Then life gets in the way. There are times even when you are knocked off track by a personal or family illness or emergency or an unexpected bill lands on our doormat.

Dont they just give you a great excuse as to why you didn’t do this or that to bring your goals to completion? If only that hadn’t happened, if only I had more time. Your goal lies on a piece of paper somewhere to appear again when you will have more time.

I will now let you into a secret, now I am hoping you will not broadcast this to everyone – Life gets in the way  but the more successful individuals have developed techniques for keeping their focus on the goal DESPITE what is happening around them.

I had the experience last week of watching a Premiership Footballer in the UK playing with all the positive determination of a true professional, his fans were not aware that he had been woken at 2:00am that morning to learn of the sudden death of his younger brother in a car accident. Now that is focus.

On a lesser scale watch any true professional who can hold their concentration despite what may be happening around them. I well remember when I was learning to play golf. The guy I played with, played off scratch {if you do not play golf – that means he was good!}, as I started my back swing he would cough or noisily open a bag of crisps, carefully designed to put me off – well yes – but he also taught me to ignore what was happening around me and concentrate on my swing. So that my subconscious took over when I needed inspiration in negative circumstances.

Watch your son or daughter play a computer game and see the powerful force of concentration on their faces as they destroy the baddies. My son even at 19 yrs of age, when home from university, doesn’t hear a vacuum cleaner or me come into his room when his concentration, set on his goal of saving the earth, is successful.

Listen to this – now look at your goals. Is your journey one of successful completion or do you drift from thing to thing, even to the extent that you do not make the goal at all!

There is a supreme secret in goal planning that will guarantee that you never drift off course, so that you will always have time to work on your goal achievement each and every day to accomplish all you commit to achieve. It is your choice, you are ready for success aren’t you?

Ask yourself why do you drift off course, why do you fail to achieve your goal? The clue to achievement of all your goals is on this page. As Napoleon Hill said in his wonderful work; ‘Think and Grow Rich’, the secret to wealth is within the pages. He did not tell you what the secret was as he wanted you to discover it for yourself, that is a positive powerful form of leadership.

The secret to goal achievement is in this article, but you have to find it.

For when you do you will achieve everything you want in life.

Because of the pressures of daily living you may not have time to commit  to do everything you WANT to do, but with focus you will have plenty of time to do everything you NEED to do. Goal setting is a simple formula of setting out what you want in life and making the decision to commit to achieving those goals. And once you know the SECRET you will have focus and power to achieve what you may have thought was impossible.

Do it now! That saying can affect every phase of your life. concentration is the key to success. It can help you do the things you should do but don’t feel like doing. It can keep you from procrastinating when an unpleasant duty faces you. But it can also help you do those things that you want to do. It helps you seize those precious moments that, if lost, will never be retrieved.

Why You Should Walk in the Footsteps of Giants

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

You possibly already know this but I wonder if you are like so many others who embark on a new career – you try to re-invent or even create the wheel!

I well remember when I was a branch manager for a life assurance company here in the UK, new agents would come in and although the basic course would always include a section on how to sell life assurance, they would go away and try to do it differently from the way they were taught.  This was their future they were dealing with but in their mind they new better even though I tried to conduct the training in a motivational way. They looked at my success and thought they could be more effective, their perfomance would match mine if they were left alone, and when they struggled to reach objectives they blamed the training.

Is that familiar to you?

Trying to find new ways is OK as long as the basics are in place for you to achieve success and you are earning money while you experiment, but invariably new methods take a long time to mature.

At this time of the year thoughts automatically turn to NEW beginnings no matter where your career lies. Self development progam adverts are to be found on almost every page of the Internet, coaching and training is offered with wonderful headlines screaming; ‘NEW Way..’Effective Management offered..”Motivational training and coaching leading to performance goals so that you achieve success in your career..’

Which do you follow?

STOP! Let me ask you a critical question, ‘have you ever thought about what is involved in the word LEADERSHIP?’ It simply means ‘One who has gone before and is willing to help others to follow.’ So is this a vital clue in your quest for success?

Listen carefully:- The shortest route to achieving all you want in life is to find someone who is already doing it or has done it {Leadership}. Study what they had to do to achieve their success then simply engage in the same activities that brought them success and you will be on the correct pathway to achieving all you want.

When I look back on my career, yes I am that old that I can look back, I realise joking aside I never did anything original on the way, every time I tried to be original I found myself moving away from my goal instead of toward it.

Everything I did was taught to me by someone who had already done it or was doing it and was being successful. In fact I relate in my book ‘The First Step’ the exact technique that enabled me to enjoy the success I have had to date, in an easily followed format for you to learn and start enjoying the success you crave.

1st word of warning:-  If you are going to model your actions on someone else ensure that they are very successful and you will increase your standard of living by emulating their actions, and that they are conducive to your core beliefs. A master criminal may be deemed successful if they have not been caught but emulating their activity probably (I hope) contravenes your core beliefs!

2nd word of warning:-  When you embark on your new goal be wary of who you tell and what you tell them. It is not necessarily in their interest that you become successful so they may give off negative vibes to hold you in place. Even friends and family may respond negatively as they could fear that you will leave them behind.

I do know this, if you want to spend more time, more money and endure more frustration than you would otherwise, then strike out on an unproven path to your goal.

On the other hand, if you’re looking to significantly improve your odds of success and get to your goal on the straightest, shortest path, find someone you can model, follow in the footsteps of giants.

You are ready for success aren’t you?

The Power of Belief

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

Ready? O.K. Here we go…W Clement Stone said, “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe he will achieve.”

On May 25th 1961 J F Kennedy set out a major plan for the United States scientists when he declared to a joint session of congress, ‘First, I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth.’

Up until he said that walking on the moon was the stuff of science fiction with the emphasis on ‘FICTION’.

It was in 1953 that Sir Edmund Hilary and Sherpa Tensing stood at the top of the highest mountain in the world, when all said the climb was impossible becaus eof the lack of oxygen.

In May 1964 a young medical student, Dr Roger Bannister, won world renown, not for his skills in the operating theatre, but by doing something in 3 minutes 59.4 seconds that no man had done before
What did he do, he finally ran a mile in under 4 minutes! The stuff of comics and story books before he ran on a little race track in Oxford, against his old university aided by two colleagues in Chris Brasher and Chris Chataway. Even though eminant physicians had tried to prove that the human body could not withstand the demand placed on it by attempting such a feat.

Why are these events so important when you are setting goals, the individuals had an undying belief in what they wanted to achieve in spite of the number of knowledgeable advisors that surrounded them saying what they proposed could not be done.

Extra-ordinary human beings? No! Just ordinary people doing extra-ordinary things driven by the belief that it could be done.

It’s no doubt the number one secret of World-Class Goal Achievers. When all other things are equal, it’s the reason why one person makes millions and the other one can barely make a living. It’s the power of belief.

Look at you own situation, when was the last time you set out to achieve something only to be told by your family and peer group that you would never do it. How many times have you heard the little negative voice which is inside all of us tell you that you cannot do what you wanted to set out to do?

We all have conversations with our selves, whenever we are faced with a choice. This conversation takes place between our positive and negative selves. The positive will point out all the advantages to be gained from taking a particular course of action, whereas the negative voice will look at the experiences we have had to date and point out all the times we have failed to achieve a result. The experiences may or may not directly relate to the course of action we are considering.

Napoleon Hill said that faith was the most powerful force on earth (faith is belief without proof). Christians know that the power of faith has been described as being so powerful that a tiny amount (the size of a mustard seed) could move mountains.

Belief is nothing more than what we accept as true or real. Now here’s something important to understand: what we accept as true may not be true and it may not be real. But if we accept it as true or real it influences our decisions just as if it were.

Hey, slow down a bit that is a bit heavy. What I am saying here is that we have two minds, you will have heard of this before. The conscious mind and the sub-conscious mind. The conscious mind draws on everything that happens to our five senses, touch, hearing, sight, smell, taste whereas the subconscious has none of these experiences to draw on. Yet it is the subconscious mind that is the true driving force of our existence. When was the last time you had to force yourself to breathe, blink or whatever? Your subconscious mind takes over and we do things automatically.

By the same token it is also the home of your limiting beliefs – remember those conversations?

But we will look at limiting beliefs and how to conquer them elsewhere.

When I was at school it was drilled into us that THE ONLY WAY to succeed was to work hard, pass your exams to get a good job.

This is just not strictly true. Let’s look at some evidence, ever heard of say Bill Gates, the richest person in the world. Bill Gates dropped out of college without a degree. So that belief is obviously false.

Before you say, ‘It was alright for him he developed Microsoft and was in the right place at the right time. Did he know that when he set off to develop Microsoft?

Who is to say that that dream you have inside your head right at this moment will not cause people in the future, if you follow your dream through, to say of you, ‘It’s alright for him he developed x company’.

Listen, Dr. Maxwell Maltz, the legendary author of Psycho-Cybernetics said, “Within you right now is the power to do things you never dreamed possible.  This power becomes available to you just as soon as you can change your beliefs.”
